Ms. Kakade has extensive experience working in international environmental and human rights law. She recently prepared an environmental law and compliance training program for small-scale industries in Delhi, INDIA, and Bangalore, INDIA, which helped build the capacity of small-scale industry managers from a variety of sectors including electroplating, printing, and dying, to comply with Indian environmental law, and achieve "beyond compliance" waste minimization and pollution prevention techniques. As a follow-up to the project, Ms. Kakade is writing an article for publication that compares small business environmental compliance assistance in India and the United States. She is also currently working with IW:LEARN, a project of the Global Environment Facility, to develop a series of workshops and training materials on public participation in international waters management. In the past, Ms. Kakade interned at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Geneva, Switzerland where she represented UNDP at the meetings of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, and the Committee on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights. She also presented a lecture to the UNDP-European Office on the role of UNDP in human rights law. In addition, Ms. Kakade interned at the United States Department of Justice-Executive Office for Immigration Review, where she drafted opinions for four adminsitrative law judges on asylum issues and proceedings under the Convention Against Torture. As an Indian-American, Ms. Kakade is extremely familiar with South-Asian culture, and is proficient in Marathi. She holds a JD from George Washington School of Law and a B.S. in Economics and International Relations, with a minor in Environmental Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
