Dr. Senanayake has over 12 years of experience in agro-foresty in Sri Lanka, Australia, Costa Rica, and the Philippines, as well as experience in implementing analog forestry protrams in Sri Lanka and the Philippines. Ranil is Counterpart's Agro-forestry Senior Scientist and developed the signature tropical agro-forestry model is known as the Forest Garden Program. Based on the scientific principles of Analog Forestry, the Forest Garden Program is a community-based sustainable agro-forestry model specifically designed for subsistence food production, income generation for poor rural farmers, native ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation. The Forest Garden Program is also an effective buffer zone management tool for habitat protection. Counterpart’s Forest Garden Program has been developed over the past 10 years with $9.5 million in funding from USAID, USDA and other donors in Sri Lanka, Philippines Vientam, Zimbabwe, and recently with Maya communities in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize.
