Seasonal climate and extreme event forecasting assesses and forecasts the impacts of short-term climate and geological variability, emphasizing enhanced risks of extreme events through real-time monitoring and assessments of the origins of major anomalies. Meteorologists, oceanographers, and geologists review climate, weather, and geological observations and data; assess their meaning, significance, and current status; and try to predict likely future impacts, to prepare for and mitigate the affects of natural disasters such as tornados, hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes, and Tsunamis.
Chemonics is distributing self-powered radios to rural communities in Mozambique to help them prepare for cyclones and flooding.
