Economic rehabilitation can take many forms, whether it is through direct foreign investment, or more sustainable projects that focus on increasing household purchasing power through income generating activities. Small-scale infrastructure and public works rehabilitation often serve a dual purpose: first, by focusing development efforts on the rehabilitation of irrigation systems and water utilities, and alternative agricultural practices, the community benefits from better and more efficient utilities and water systems; second, such projects that use local labor employment also provide sustainable sources of income for numerous families and contribute to the overall health of the economy.
